Why Client Avatars Are Dead and What to Do Instead
Brown hair, blue eyes, 5ft 6.

She wants to start an online business but isn't sure how to get started.
The familiar client avatar...
Businesses waste hours researching and perfecting it. (Instead of spending hours on a pointless exercise, there’s a better way to truly understand what makes your audience tick. ➡ The 5 Levels of Market Awareness (And Why Many Entrepreneurs Get It Wrong).
I have done it myself in the past.
I even knew what mine ate for breakfast!
But not any more.
Not since my copy coach, Mathew Volkwyn, introduced me to market immersion.
Market immersion doesn't just make client avatars outdated—it makes them look like relics from the Dark Ages.
One-dimensional. Outdated. Useless.
Here's what Mathew taught me.
Don't focus on just one person;
Look at what the top businesses in your market are doing, because when you study what’s already working, you don’t have to reinvent the wheel—you just refine it (The Email Goldmine: How to Sell More Without More Subscribers).
Get to know where your ideal clients have come from and what they've learnt on the way.
Learn the language they use - understand where they are and where they would like to get to. This is how you write copy that speaks directly to your audience’s desires (The 3 C's of Copywriting: Turn Every Word into a Profit-Generating Machine).
Understanding this allows you to stand out, engage more ideal clients, and increase sales.
So, where do you find all of this information?
Wherever your ideal clients hang out.
Competitors' websites and sales funnels (but don't copy them- it will only make you blend in).
Forums like Quora and Reddit.
Amazon book reviews in your niche.
Then, you use this information and create an offer using the exact words your ideal clients already know and trust.
To create an irresistible offer they can't afford to ignore.
If all of this sounds too time-consuming, you can hire a copywriter to do the work for you. A great copywriter won’t just write words—they’ll tap into your market’s true desires and create a message that sells (Why Your Emails Aren’t Converting - And How to Fix It).
