A Day in the Life of a High-Impact Direct Response Copywriter
6:00 AM – The Wake-Up Run & Morning on the Water
Before anything else, I lace up my trainers and head out for a run along the canal. Living on a narrowboat has its perks—fresh air, peaceful water, and the sunrise reflecting in ripples as I move. The ducks paddle by, a heron stands still in the reeds, and I just take it all in for a moment. This quiet start fuels my creativity before the workday begins.
7:00 AM – The Warm-Up
Coffee first. Always. As a direct-response copywriter, my brain needs fuel before the words start flowing. I spend the first 30 minutes skimming industry news, catching up on trends, and reading killer ads to get inspired.

8:00 AM – Deep Work Zone
I turn on my focus playlist, shut off notifications, and dive into my first project—maybe a high-ticket sales page for a 7-figure coach. I’m not just writing words; I’m taking them on a persuasive journey that makes readers think, Wow, I need this!
(The secret to compelling copy? A strong, relatable story. Your Story = Your Biggest Sales Asset - Here's Why, explores how storytelling turns readers into buyers.
11:00 AM – The First Review
Time to step back. I read what I’ve written aloud (yes, it sounds weird, but it works). If a sentence stumbles, the reader will too. Editing is where good copy turns into great copy.
1:00 PM ish - Lunch
Hopefully, I will be sitting in the sunshine, catching a glimpse of the electric blue kingfisher as it darts along the water.
2:00 PM – Client Calls & Strategy Sessions
Direct response isn’t just about writing—it’s about psychology. On client calls, we refine their unique voice and ensure their offers hit the right emotional triggers. I ask the tough questions: What stops people from buying? What’s the real transformation you offer?

3:00 PM – Conversion Tweaks & A/B Testing
A copywriter’s job doesn’t end when the draft is done. I check performance data, tweak headlines, and rewrite email subject lines to boost open rates. It’s part art, part science.
6:00 PM – Wind Down & Inspiration Mode
Evenings on the narrowboat are something special. As the sun sets, its colours ripple across the water, turning everything golden. I sit outside with a book in the summer, watching the last boats glide by. Sometimes, a new idea for a sales hook pops into my head—because creativity doesn’t just happen at a desk, it brews in these quiet, reflective moments.
Living on the canal and working as a copywriter might seem like two different worlds, but they both come down to the same thing—observation. Watching what makes people (and nature) move, understanding rhythms, and crafting something that feels effortless yet deeply impactful. That’s what great storytelling—and great copy—is all about.
